SYNOPSIS

I — Nous sommes au XVIIIème siècle.

Un jeune Prince, âgé de treize ans et orphelin de père et de mère, règne sur une minuscule principauté dans la région d'Angkor.

Comme le grand Roi de France Saint-Louis, il sait rendre justice à son peuple, souvent victime des abus, exactions et autres actes d'oppression du clan dont sa belle-tante est le Chef.

II — Autant le "Petit Prince" est adoré et vénéré par son peuple qui l'appelle "PRACHEA KOMAR", c'est-à-dire "Le Petit Prince du Peuple", autant sa tante, que l'on soupçonne d'avoir fait empoisonner les parents du jeune souverain, est (à juste raison) haïe el crainte par les humbles citoyens et citoyennes khmers de la Principauté.

III — Un jour, la méchante belle-tante, dont l'ambition est sans bornes, fait enlever "PRACHEA KOMAR" alors qu'il se promène tout seul à cheval dans la forêt d'Angkor. Heureusement, "PRACHEA KOMAR" est sauvé in extremis des mains du bourreau par un Ermite.

IV — Croyant "PRACHEA KOMAR" mort et enterré par les soins du bourreau, la méchante belle-tante contraint son (faible) Époux à se proclamer Souverain de la Principauté.

La nouvelle "Souveraine" ordonne une répression très cruelle du "petit peuple" qui, dit-elle, au lieu de se réjouir de l'avènement de l'oncle du "Petit Prince", ne fait que pleurer la perte de son bien-aimé "PRACHEA KOMAR".

V — Le peuple opprimé finit par se révolter contre le couple princier tyrannique.

Avec l'aide de la Garde Princière restée fidèle à "PRACHEA KOMAR", ce peuple réussit à tuer la méchante belle-tante et à rétablir "son" jeune Prince sur le Trône de ses parents.

Le "Petit Prince du Peuple" peut désormais vivre heureux, avec son peuple bien-aimé, en choisissant comme épouse une charmante et douce paysanne.

Ce fut sans aucun doute un moment très émouvant pour Samdech Norodom Sihanouk lorsque, l'autre jour, au théâtre national "Preah Bat Suramarit" le président du jury du premier "Festival international du film" de Phnom Penh, le grand cinéaste français Marcel Camus, lui remit "l'Apsara d'or", premier grand prix du Festival, pour son film "le Petit Prince".

SYNOPSIS

I/ - It is the 18th century.

A young Prince, aged 13, orphaned, reigns over a tiny principality in the region of Angkor.

Like Saint-Louis, the great king of France, he knows how to administer justice to his people, who are frequently victims of the corrupt practices, extortions and other acts of oppression by the party led by his Step-aunt.

II/ - The "Little Prince" is adored and venerated by his people who call him "Prachea Komar”, which means "The Little Prince of the People" as fervently as his aunt (rightly suspected of poisoning the young king's parents) is hated and feared by the humble Khmer citizens of the Principality.

III/ - One day, the wicked step-aunt, whose ambition knows no bounds, arranges to have the little "Prachea Komar" kidnapped as he rides alone and unaccompanied in the Angkor forest. But fortunately he is rescued in the nick of time from his villainous captor by a Hermit.

IV/ - Believing the "Prachea Komar" to be dead and buried by her hired assassin, the wicked step-aunt persuades her weak-minded husband to proclaim himself Ruler of the Principality.

She immediately ordered the "humble people" to be cruelly punished, because - according to her - instead of rejoicing at the enthronement of the Little Prince's uncle, they persisted in mourning the loss of their beloved "Prachea Komar".

V/ - Eventually, the oppressed population revolted against the tyranny of their new rulers.

 Aided by the Royal Bodyguard who had remained loyal to the "Prachea Komar” they succeeded in assassinating the hated step-aunt and restoring "their” young prince to his parents' throne.

The "Little Prince of the People" was therefore able to live happily ever after with his loyal, and devoted subjects, and chose as his bride and princess a gentle, charming peasant girl.
